10 Science Fiction/Fantasy Movies to Watch in Quarantine: *As a clarification, this is not my top 10 favorite film list for this/or any category. This list is compiled of the movies that are currently available to stream on the most popular streaming services; Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix. Some are favorites, for sure. But the list was limited by what is available to stream online.

Science fiction/fantasy films have never really been my flavor of movies, but I was able to find 10 films in the science fiction or fantasy category.

THE ROCKETEER (PG)

Set in the 1930s, this classic is the story of a young pilot who stumbles onto a jetpack that allows him to become a high-flying hero. Complete with gangsters, Nazi spies, and old Hollywood–this story has it all.

STAR WARS SERIES (PG/PG-13)

You don’t have to be a nerd to watch these movies. The Star Wars series is the story of Luke Skywalker, a cocky pilot, a beautiful princess, and a Wookiee. There’s some debate as to how to watch these and which order. But they are definitely worth watching if you haven’t seen them yet.

MOON (R)

An astronaut living in isolation on the moon discovers that his world is not what he thought it was and that he may not even be alone.

MIDNIGHT SPECIAL (PG-13)

A young boy with special abilities and his father are on the run from the government and a cult, both of whom are drawn to the boy due to his special powers.

SUPER 8 (PG-13)

In the summer of 1979, a group of young aspiring filmmakers witness a train accident and soon suspect it wasn’t an accident. They are then led on a journey to investigate the unexplained events that follow.

HUGO (PG)

An orphan living in the walls of a train station is determined to solve the mystery of his late father and an automaton.

MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL (PG)

A comical take on the historical story of King Arthur and Camelot. King Arthur travels the countryside to find knights who will join him at the Round Table in Camelot when God sends them on a journey to find the Holy Grail.

NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE (PG)

Based on the beloved novel by C.S. Lewis, this movie tells the tale of the four siblings who are taken into a mysterious and exciting new world Narnia.

FREAKY FRIDAY (G)

Either version is available on Disney Plus but I am partial to the 1976 version. A mother and daughter, in a desperate attempt to understand each other, inadvertently switch places.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl — Courtesy of Walt Disney Studios

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN (PG-13)

Again, all of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies are available on Disney Plus but the first is my personal favorite. Based on a Disneyland ride, this movie tells the story of blacksmith Will Turner who teams up with pirate Captain Jack Sparrow to save his love from the undead pirates.
