THEME REVEAL FOR SOUTHERN UTAH’S HORROR-FEST GUERILLA FILMMAKING CHALLENGE DROPS ON FRIDAY, SEPT 13TH!

FMASU’S HORROR-FEST EDITION OF THE GUERILLA FILMMAKING CHALLENGE RETURNS!

Article by Adam Mast

Southern Utah’s Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge has been going strong since 2005 and it all started with Horror-Fest! The Challenge is simple; This creative platform gives storytellers of all ages and all skill sets an opportunity to put together a 5-minute short film in a limited amount of time using any resources available to them.

Presented by The Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah (FMASU,) this Challenge requires that you follow a set of rules and guidelines, the big one being the utilization of a given theme. That theme will be revealed on Friday, September 13th at “Southern Utah’s Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge” Facebook page. Be sure to act fast on that day because only 25 filmmaking teams can sign up to take part in the Challenge. No clue as to what the theme will be but you can bet it will be Halloween-appropriate.

Challenge organizers also want to point out that even though you can’t start shooting your film until that September 13th theme reveal date, there’s no reason you can’t start formulating a game plan and putting together a story concept in your head so that so you’re ready to jump in right when the theme and guidelines go live. It should also be noted that this is not a 48-hour filmmaking challenge. Storytellers will have until Monday, October 14th to submit their projects. That’s right! You’ll have nearly a month which can prove to be either a blessing or a curse depending on how you choose to use that time.

On a final note, all completed Guerilla Shorts will be presented on the big screen in a theatrical setting on Saturday, October 26th during FMASU’s big annual Horror-Fest Spooktacular! And yes, there will be cash prizes awarded to the strongest films of the bunch. Expect plenty of surprises throughout the evening, as well.

Whether you’ve made a short film before or not, come on out to Horror-Fest and take part in this wonderfully creative experience.
