THE DARK CRYSTAL BACK IN THEATERS COURTESY OF FATHOM EVENTS

FATHOM EVENTS IS BRINGING JIM HENSON’S 80’S GEM THE DARK CRYSTAL BACK TO THEATERS FOR A VERY LIMITED TIME!

Article by Adam Mast

What a treat this is going to be! On Feb. 25th and 28th at 2 PM and 7 PM, alternative theatrical programming titan Fathom Events, Universal Pictures, and The Jim Henson Company are bringing the fantasy adventure, THE DARK CRYSTAL, back to the big screen!

Released in 1982, this creative adventure film from iconic entertainers Jim Henson and Frank Oz came out during a wonderful 80’s fantasy film explosion. An explosion that included the likes of THE NEVERENDING STORY, LEGEND, WILLOW, and LABYRINTH! For my money, though, THE DARK CRYSTAL was the strongest of the pack. Why? Well for many reasons, but high among them is the fact that this film is brought to breathtaking life almost entirely through the magic of puppetry!

Here’s a synopsis;

In another world and another time, a Gelfling called Jen sets out on an extraordinary journey all in an effort to return a crystal shard to his world’s life source, The Dark Crystal. The journey will be a treacherous one as Jen comes face to face with a monstrous race of creatures called the Skeksis. Through the aid of female Gelfling, Kira, a strange witch of a creature named Aughra, and a lovable furball called Fizzgig, Jen attempts to restore peace to a seemingly doomed world.

The idea of getting to see THE DARK CRYSTAL on the big screen again is an exciting one, indeed. Especially taking into consideration that a brand new DARK CRYSTAL mini-series is in production at Netflix! This is a great opportunity revisit the original, the way it was meant to be experienced. And to go along with the majesty of the film itself is a special introduction by Lisa Henson. Bonus!

If you’ve seen THE DARK CRYSTAL before, see it again and by all means, bring the family! If you haven’t seen it, now’s the time!
