STAR TREK BEYOND: NEW TRAILER, NEW POSTER, AND BIG “BEYOND” PREMEIRE NEWS!

Star Trek Beyond

TODAY’S ” STAR TREK” NEWS IS “BEYOND” EXCITING!

Article by Adam Mast

During CinemaCon in Las Vegas last April, there were plenty of attendees–the Cinemast.net team included–who felt mighty disappointed that Paramount Pictures didn’t close out their rousing product reel with a new peek at STAR TREK BEYOND. After all, Simon Pegg was on hand to present a special award to J.J. Abrams (whose Bad Robot studios is working with director Justin Lin to bring the next TREK adventure to audiences this summer)  so it seemed like a no-brainer  that we’d get a new trailer or possibly a look at some raw footage. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Having said that, word quickly spread during CinemaCon that Paramount, Lin, and crew would be saving the next facet of their big TREK marketing push for a special fan event in Los Angeles. An event that happened yesterday, in fact. As expected, this massive fan friendly affair offered up the goods! In addition to appearances by J.J. Abrams, Justin Lin, and Karl Urban, fans were also treated to around 10 minutes of footage from the upcoming film (it went over smashingly!) as well as the following bits of STAR TREK BEYOND goodness:

A NEW “STAR TREK BEYOND” MOVIE TRAILER

This outstanding new trailer should put to rest any fear that this movie won’t feel like TREK or that this was some kind of a troubled production. As promised, STAR TREK BEYOND finds the crew (led, once again, by the likes of Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and Simon Pegg) of the starship Enterprise engaged in their 5 year mission and in addition to looking crazy entertaining, BEYOND also looks to be injecting all those qualities that made Gene Roddenberry’s original series so special. Namely, real life topical issues. Look no further than a playful moment towards the end of this trailer when a female alien gets comfortable in Kirk’s chair. It’s incredibly amusing and a terrific up-to-date TREK moment. Justin Lin is certainly building on Abrams’ visual style here and there’s no doubt this film looks to be up-tempo with occasional silly moments (can you say “motorcycle?”), but it’s also clear that old school TREK fans Lin and co-writer/co-star Pegg want to stay true to the iconic source material. They’re even introducing what looks to be quite the magnetic villain (played by the great Idris Elba.) This trailer is all kinds of AWESOME! It’s an improvement on the first trailer which I also quite liked. Have a look for yourself.

A NEW “STAR TREK BEYOND”  POSTER

In addition to that outstanding trailer, fans have also been treated to this new badass poster. It’s simple but effective with a style that hearkens back to the original one-sheet for Richard Donner’s SUPERMAN from 1978. Pretty great!

“STAR TREK BEYOND” RED CARPET PREMIERE AT COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL THIS JULY!

And here’s some positively awesome STAR TREK BEYOND news that will be of particular interest to those of you attending San Diego Comic-Con this July. Paramount will be holding a massive Red Carpet premiere for STAR TREK BEYOND on Wednesday, July 20th, and a handful of lucky Comic-Con attendees and TREK fans will soon have an opportunity to acquire tickets to this one-of-a-kind event. One of the many things that makes this premiere so special, so exciting, and so unique is that it will be the first ever outdoor Imax presentation. It will be held at Embarcadero Marina Park, just behind the San Diego Convention Center. Cooler still, select members of the cast and crew will be at the event along with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, which will be on hand to perform Michael Giacchino’s score, live! Clearly, this is a must-attend event for TREK fans!

Here’s hoping that STAR TREK BEYOND is even half as awesome as it looks because quite frankly,  there would be no cooler way to usher in the 50th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s legendary contribution to the world of science fiction.

“Live long and prosper.”
