*Comic-Con International is a nonprofit educational corporation dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for, comics and related popular artforms, primarily through the presentation of conventions and events that celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture. While we at Cinemast.net love it all, the primary draw for us are the numerous film and television presentations held in glorious Hall H. And while navigating this San Diego staple can be tricky business, we’ve almost got it down to a science. Of course, we have over 15 years of SDCC navigation under our belts, so that certainly helps. Watch for our San Diego Comic-Con coverage here at the site over the next few days.

That’s right, folks! PREDATOR is back with an all-new movie directed by the great Shane Black who, subsequently, appeared as a lovable grunt in John McTiernan‘s original sci-fi action flick from 1987. You’d think that perhaps Black would have had a hand in the script for that picture since that was right around the same time he was kicking ass and taking names with his highly sought after screenplay for a little movie called LETHAL WEAPON but no, Black merely had a supporting role in PREDATOR. Cut to over 30 years later and Black and his MONSTER SQUAD co-writer Fred Dekker have teamed up to give us a new take on what is promising to be a continuation of sorts as opposed to a straight-up reboot.

Having seen the release of 3 stand-alone PREDATOR movies and a couple of rather lackluster ALIEN VS. PREDATOR entries, how might this new film measure up? While I certainly like PREDATOR there’s no doubt that Black is the big draw for me here. In fact, when I initially heard he was going to make this his next project, I was overcome with excitement.

Unfortunately, the first trailer for THE PREDATOR was underwhelming at best but thankfully, the second trailer was an improvement. And while it’s a little discouraging to hear that there’s been a little negative buzz surrounding this project, I’m more than willing to give the man behind LETHAL WEAPON, THE LAST BOY SCOUT, AND KISS KISS BANG BANG the benefit of the doubt.

Black was on hand at San Diego Comic-Con with a large portion of an impressive cast (including Thomas Jane, Olivia Munn, and Keegan-Michael Key) and in case you’re wondering, yes… He brought along footage to share with an enthusiastic crowd.
