JURASSIC WORLD SEQUEL FINDS A DIRECTOR!

Jurassic World 2

IF YOU THOUGHT FINDING A SOLID DIRECTOR FOR THE “JURASSIC WORLD” SEQUEL WOULD BE AN “IMPOSSIBLE” TASK FOR UNIVERSAL PICTURES, YOU’D BE WRONG!

Article by Adam Mast

Given that JURASSIC WORLD made a gazillion dollars at the box-office, you had to know there was going to be another one. For those following this project, you’re probably already well aware that Colin Trevorrow will not be returning to the director’s chair for the follow-up. He was too busy shooting his new film, THE BOOK OF HENRY,  and prepping a little movie called EPISODE IX. Having said that, Trevorrow is penning the script for the sequel with his writing partner, Derek Connolly.

Today, Universal has officially announced a director for the JURASSIC WORLD follow-up, and I have to tell you…It’s a solid choice!

J.A. BAYONA

Here’s Colin Trevorrow’s blessing to Bayona:

Bayona was responsible for 2007’s  THE ORPHANAGE, an atmospheric, character driven ghost story. This fall will see the release of his latest effort, a fantasy/drama called A MONSTER CALLS.  Aside from those titles though, Bayona is probably most known for his tsunami drama, THE IMPOSSIBLE starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.

With THE IMPOSSIBLE, this Barcelona-born storyteller was able to create a nightmarish spectacle of a disaster flick, but without sacrificing the rich character drama at the center of the piece. Obviously, JURASSIC WORLD is a popcorn flick, but Bayona’s ability to work with actors and his undeniable skill at crafting films that are visual effects heavy, make this a match made in dino-Heaven.

Here’s hoping Trevorrow and Connolly write a script worthy of Bayona’s considerable talent.

JURASSIC WORLD 2 (that’s what we’re calling it for now) is expected to stomp into theaters on June 22nd, 2018.
