BOND, JAMES BOND.

Sony Pictures just held a big James Bond shindig at Pinewood Studios. During the presentation, the studio dropped some  very noteworthy info regarding the 24th entry of the enduring franchise. The official title of the next James Bond flick is…

SPECTRE

A straight forward title. It leaves very little to the imagination. Clearly, this movie will be an introduction to the infamous crime organization known as SPECTRE.

Daniel Craig will return as iconic spy James Bond while Christoph Waltz will be taking on the role of a mysterious character called Oberhauser. Some are speculating that the studio is pulling a Khan and that perhaps Waltz is really appearing as SPECTRE mastermind Ernest Blofeld.

Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw will also be back alongside new characters played by Monica Bellucci, Lea Seydoux, Andrew Scott, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY co-star Dave Bautista as a henchman called Mr. Hinx.

Sony also revealed a brief synopsis;

A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization, SPECTRE. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

With SPECTRE, SKYFALL director Sam Mendes returns to the director’s chair. The film is slated to hit theaters just in time for the 2015 holiday season.

I have to say, I’m greatly looking forward to this one. I thought SKYFALL was terrific. I wasn’t even bothered by the HOME ALONE inspired final act. Mendes managed to take us back to the early days, but with a modern twist. Most of all, SKYFALL was exciting. I’m slightly disappointed that Waltz has been cast as the villain. Don’t get me wrong. Waltz plays a great villain, but that’s just it. We’ve seen him play the baddie countless times (INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, THE GREEN HORNET, the upcoming BIG EYES, etc.) Early reports suggested that Chiwetel Ejiofor was being courted to play the villain at one point and I was instantly intrigued by that casting choice. Still, if Waltz is  actually playing Blofeld here, that’s a shrewd bit of casting.  Whatever the case may be, I suspect SPECTRE is going to be a great time at the movies.
