I AIN’T AFRAID OF NO REBOOTS!

Sony Pictures just dropped the first trailer for Paul Feig’s GHOSTBUSTERS reboot starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones and while it appears to be–in fact–a reboot, this clip isn’t shy when it comes to reminding audiences that the original GHOSTBUSTERS movie actually exists.
I resisted the idea of this film for a long time and it wasn’t until Feig (BRIDESMAIDS, THE HEAT, SPY) came on board that I changed my mind. Does this trailer suggest that this reboot was a good idea?
Well, it’s hard to tell. There are some positives. The ladies who make up this new team of Ghostbusters certainly look to have strong chemistry. Of the pack, Leslie Jones appears to be a dominating force. Look no further than a moment when she tries to rid a possessed McCarthy of a nasty poltergeist.
The effects don’t look too shabby, either. While several of the apparitions look like variations of the original film’s ghostly concepts, they have certainly been given a contemporary face lift. This teaser even gives us a brief look at Slimer.
The jury is still out as to whether or not this is all going to come together, but at the very least, this first trailer suggests that Feig and crew’s hearts are in the right place.
GHOSTBUSTERS opens on July 15th, 2016.
