FMASU CELEBRATES 2 LEGENDARY ENTERTAINMENTS

BY WAY OF A SPINE TINGLING HALLOWEEN EVENT CALLED

“HORROR-FEST: A NIGHTMARE ON MAIN STREET”

Article by Adam Mast

“Horror-Fest” has been a staple here in St. George, UT since 2002. This cinematic celebration of all things Halloween serves as both a celebration of local filmmaking talent and as a showcase for the best in witching season-inspired big-screen entertainment. This year, FMASU‘s annual spooktacular, aptly titled “Horror-Fest: A Nightmare on Main Street,” will pay tribute to a couple of legendary entertainment properties celebrating impressive milestones in 2019: Wes Craven’s beloved 80s slasher opus, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (celebrating its 35th anniversary) and Rod Serling’s groundbreaking t.v. series, “The Twilight Zone” (celebrating its 60th anniversary.)

What do programmers have in store for attendees this year? Have a look:

6 PM–THE GUERILLA SHORTS SHOWCASE

Festivities will start at 6 PM at Megaplex’s Main Street Cinema with “The 2019 Horror-Fest Edition of the Guerilla Shorts Showcase.” Storytellers were given the theme “It was just a bad dream” and a limited amount of time to put together a 5-minute short film using any resources available to them. This particular Challenge saw a record-breaking 30 filmmaker sign-ups. Attendees will have a rare opportunity to experience these creative Halloween-inspired endeavors on the big screen. You’ll also be able to get in on the action and vote for your favorite as there will be an audience choice award handed out alongside 3 Jury prizes.

Not that you need other reasons to attend, but event organizers also promise a little something extra unique during “The Guerilla Shorts Showcase.” They’re not saying exactly what it is but suggest it’s a creative first for a local storytelling platform that’s been going strong since 2005!

Note that no carving will be allowed on the premises. Awards for costumes and Jack-O-Lanterns will be handed out just before the closing night screening.

9:15 PM–35TH ANNIVERSARY SCREENING OF “A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET”

“Horror-Fest” will close out festivities with a screening of Wes Craven’s seminal 80s horror opus, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.
