OUR FIRST LOOK AT A SEQUEL TO PIXAR’S BEST MOVIE!

So, with movies, it’s all subjective so take that header as you will. I love Pixar and aside from CARS 2, I’ve found something to love in every film they’ve released.
High amongst Pixar’s strongest efforts are THE INCREDIBLES and the TOY STORY films and as much as I love those pictures, there’s simply something about FINDING NEMO that always cut straight to my heart. Perhaps it’s the sweet father/son dynamic, maybe it’s that moving Thomas Newman score, maybe it’s the perfect vocal casting, or perhaps it’s all those breathtaking underwater vistas.
Actually, it’s a culmination of all those things and more. And as much as I love FINDING NEMO, I was somewhat disheartened when I heard there was going to be a follow-up. Of all of Pixar’s efforts, this tale of a father fish searching the big wide ocean for his lost son is perfect just the way it is and it was a fully contained story. No need for a sequel.
Alas, here we are again, only this time out, Nemo and crew set out to aid lovable-and forgetful- Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) in a quest to find her long lost family.
This brief but affectionate trailer looks to have many of the elements that made FINDING NEMO so endearing. The colorful characters, those breathtaking underwater vistas, that cute sense of humor, a stirring Thomas Newman score, etc. I suppose it remains to be seen if FINDING DORY will bring that all encompassing warmth to the table, but in Pixar I trust.
A sequel to FINDING NEMO still doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but who are we kidding? I’ll be first in line when FINDING DORY swims into theaters on June 17th, 2016.
