Imagine my surprise when I sat down to watch SUICIDE SQUAD and up pops a teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s DUNKIRK…A movie that’s still almost a year out! Ahhh, the power of Nolan! A film can be sold on his name alone. DUNKIRK marks a bit of a departure for the gifted storyteller behind THE DARK KNIGHT, THE PRESTIGE, and INCEPTION, as this film is based on a historical incident. It tells of a tale of survival during a fierce World War II battle, to be more precise.
This is just a tease and while it lacks the chill-inducing vibe that made that first INSTERSTELLAR teaser so damn appealing, it’s still pretty effective. The scope of this picture looks fittingly huge and Hoyte Van Hoytema‘s cinematography looks gorgeous (subsequently, as expected, DUNKIRK was shot on film and will receive a 70mm Imax release.) Add to these notable attributes a stellar cast including Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Kenneth Branagh, and you have all the makings of a movie to truly get excited about. In fact, DUNKIRK is certainly high amongst the most anticipated films of 2017.
