“This crew is about family but the game has changed now.”

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS is that rare franchise that didn’t really start to find its groove until 4 installments in. Since then, this series has never looked back. Of course, tragedy struck during production on FURIOUS 7 in the form of the unfortunate passing of co-star Paul Walker. James Wan and crew ultimately handled the situation with a whole lot of class making for a movie that was both a high octane thrill ride and a stirring tribute to Walker. The question remained though;  Would the series continue?  Well, when a movie makes as much money as the last FURIOUS picture did, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to answer that question.

THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS (gotta love that title!) finds THE ITALIAN JOB and STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON director F. Gary Gray taking over for a departing James Wan (he was busy at work on THE CONJURING 2 and the upcoming AQUAMAN.) In addition to returning favorites like Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ludacris, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Lucas Black, and Kurt Russell, this latest installment is also throwing Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren into the mix.

Fittingly, this trailer makes the film look goofy and over the top but I’m not going to lie…It also looks incredibly entertaining! And for all its silly, gravity defying ridiculousness (can you say “Torpedo?!”), these multi-cultural cast members look to be having the time of their ever loving lives. Furthermore, the reason for the enduring success of this franchise goes far beyond all the crazy action. FURIOUS has always been about family and this series continues to wear that theme proudly on its sleeve.

With any luck, we’ll be getting an extended look at this movie during CinemaCon in Las Vegas later this month. In the meantime, let us all enjoy this high energy trailer.
