COMIC GURU talks upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE

LLOYD THE COMIC GURU ON

DOCTOR STRANGE

Article By Lloyd Hewitt

“Teach me.” Ugh! That line gives me a massive burst of excitement. Like Benedict Cumberbatch is all of us nerds saying that very same line to Marvel. Trailers and promo art is starting to flood into our homes  as November 4th looms into the horizon and I could not be any more excited! Marvel has me by the short and curlies once more as they ramp up their promotional efforts for DOCTOR STRANGE.

I think the real reason why this movie is so exciting for me is not just because it’s the magical component of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) being explored and developed onto the big screen… No! It’s much more than that. This is the real start to phase 3 for me….. I know, I know…CAPTAIN AMERICA:  CIVIL WAR was technically the start of phase 3, but Captain America to me is a phase 1 Avenger who happens to have a movie in phase 3. Doctor Strange is the first new Avenger joining the fray in phase 3 and his first cinematic adventure looks bloody brilliant!

Now it is obviously ridiculously cool that the magical element is going to be explored in DOCTOR STRANGE. I’m extremely excited for the dark dimension to make an appearance (no spoilers here…This is simply me hoping) and for Dormammu to take part in a surprise finale fight (again, I am merely hoping, here.)  However, it’s looking more likely that DOCTOR STRANGE’s opening act in the MCU will be relatively grounded, meaning Mads Mikkelsen‘s Kaecilius is probably going to be that grounding. Still, I’m hoping for Dormammu. Whatever the case may be, Mads Mikkelsen as the villain in any movie is a great choice.

What’s got me most excited about this whole endeavor is this promo art, which features a green magical glow coming from a certain Eye of Agamotto. My guess is,  it’s probably an infinity stone (*SHOCK*) More specifically, I’m thinking it’s the time stone. The main reason for the logic behind this line of thinking is that the “eye” is most often seen in the comics and other adaptations of DOCTOR STRANGE.  The “eye” is sometimes removed from the amulet (Sound familiar?) Furthermore,  I’m thinking it’s the time stone simply because Kevin Feige stated it was an important relic that held the capability to manipulate probabilities and is extremely dangerous should it fall into the wrong hands. Sounds like a time stone to me.

In any respect, I’ll keep my eyes and ears pealed to my nerd channels for more information as November 4th inches ever so closer. Let me know in the comments thread below if you share my excitement for this movie and if you think that the Eye of Agamotto really is an infinity gem.
